Answer

What does it mean if the recorder Display permanently shows a sensor reading of 49?.

1. If the sensor cable or the sensor connections at the Recorder terminals are shorted or a small strand of wire is shorting between the two input terminals this will cause the recorder to determine that the temperature is above the maximum range of the instrument and display the maximum reading capable ie +49C. Check the sensor or connections for a short circuit.

2.To check the Recorder is functioning correctly, disconnect one end of the sensor wire from the connector and the recorder should now show -40C. If this happens the recorder is operationg correctly and a short exists somewhere in the cable or least likely in the sensor probe.
