Answer

What does it mean if the recorder Display permanently shows a sensor reading of -40 or -39?.  For any sensor position number.

There are a number of reasons for this:

1. The sensor cable or the sensor connections at the Recorder terminals may be open circuit . This will cause the recorder to determine that the temperature is below the maximum range of the instrument and display the minimum reading capable ie -40C. Check the sensor or connections for an open circuit.

2. To check the recorder, short out the sensor in question and the reading should now show +49. If this is shown the recoder is operating correctly and the sensor probe or cable is open circuit.
